Pattie Armchair

Distinctly born from the nascent collaborative partnership between the Minotti Studio and designer Giampiero Tagliaferre, the Pattie Armchair epitomises softness. From the elegantly flowing lines found in the glossy Baydur frame, to the amply padded cushions, everything exudes comfort.

As with much of Tagliaferre’s work, the Pattie Armchair is deeply rooted in the aesthetics of his twin homes. From Milan, we draw a stripped-down formal elegance, evidenced in the seemingly segmented upholstered elements. From California comes a relaxed optimism, here expressed in the form of organic curves.

The synthesis of these twin influences, each harking back to the 1970s golden eras of their relative schools of design, gives the Pattie Armchair a distinctly Tagliaferre flair. Partnered with traditional Italian craftsmanship from the house of Minotti gives an object which embodies the best elements of both.

A carefully curated colour pallet, the frame being available in deep wood or cream, heightens this vintage charm. This limited selection of hues allows the Pattie Armchair and it’s accompanying footstool to invoke relaxed feelings of warmth.

Comfort As Art

The contrast between the softness of the organic lines and the harness of the gloss plastic, seeming to rise from the floor, gives the Pattie Armchair a uniquely welcoming and simultaneously sculptural aesthetic.

The polyurethane frame is at once modern and timeless, harking back to the optimistic retro-futurism of 1970s Californian design. This is artfully offset by the plush modern upholstery found on the ample cushions which act as a study in comfort.

Seeming to rise, from the floor on elegant stalks, the Pattie Armchair and its accompanying footstool embody a natural charm. The organic curves and smoothness brought to life through the high-quality Baydur plastic only serve to enhance this impression.

A Study In Relaxation

The combination of relaxed armchair and footstool encourage an almost recumbent position. Partnered with the voluminous and generously upholstered cushions, the result is a chair which all but demands relaxation.

With Tagliaferre’s customary attention to the patterns of the life-well-lived, the Pattie Armchair finds its natural home in private spaces. Here it can be truly enjoyed as the designer intended.

Architectural Practicality

Beyond aesthetic charm and an ability to invoke nostalgic feelings of relaxation, the choice of shape bears practical advantage too.

The generously voluminous cushion appears segmented, offering ergonomic support to the back and shoulders. The organic curves of the seat and footstool invite us to sprawl, enveloping us as we indulge.

The open sides and lack of arms mean that while the contours of the chair swaddle us, we are not closed off from those who share our space.

At once formal and relaxed, enveloping and open, modern and timeless, the Pattie Armchair brings contradictions together in comfortable harmony.
